Town of Sylva Zoom Bomb

We hear it a lot: “Racism doesn’t exist here in Sylva.”

In fact, it’s one of the main arguments against our work to relocate the Confederate statue downtown. “We’re not racists, our ancestors weren’t racists, therefore, this statue can’t be racist.”

As we move toward the County Commissioners’ vote on the town’s request to move the statue, we want to remind everyone of the very real evidence we have that racism does, in fact, exist here in Sylva. Several of us were on the Town of Sylva’s hacked Zoom call and saw it firsthand. CONTENT WARNING: racism, hate speech, strong language
