Update on Asheville’s Confederate Monument
We’re holding out hope that the people working on the Vance Monument will choose to do the right thing. From the Citizen Times:
“Facing the question of whether to remove, repurpose or relocate the city's iconic monument to a Confederate governor, most members of a government-appointed task force say the marker should no longer exist.
"If this monument is left in its original form, rather than completely removed or its materials altered beyond recognition, it will continue to serve as a symbol of white supremacy to those most affected by its presence," said Oralene Simmons, a Black Asheville resident and co-chair of the Vance Monument Task Force.”
